What did you enjoy about playing at Selby? | The fantastic team spirt and family togetherness and knowing the club is superbly run |
What did playing rugby teach you? | To put back into the game what you take out |
You need to take a road trip but must take 3 of your team mates with you. Who would they be? | Ian Hill - ex team mate, house mate and my best man. he coached Selby for a short period shall we say that he was a better player than a coach. Boo- been all over the place playing rugby and cricket and family holiday. Paul Hesp - great craic and knows his stuff |
Who would still come with you, without question? | Wotto - we need some intellingence. also JP and DB for their humour |
Who was the Selby dressing room joker? | Carl Patterson, Benoir but Danny Wilkinson runs them close |
Favourite player you’ve watched at Selby: | Andy Pendlebury was right up there, obviously Boo but Shaun Austerfield and John Webster were class |

Why Selby RUFC? | i moved to Selby in 1988 when i married Christine and Boo, Tony Townend and John Lancaster asked me |
Best match you’ve played in? | Wakefield v Rosslyn Park away won 27-24 in the National cup we were 24-0 up at half time (Mike Harrison hat trick) Martin Offiah scored 3 for them 2nd half. Wakefield 3 Harlequins 3 - National cup. For Selby - Yorkshire cup QF v Doncaster away winning at half time (weren't we Charley Bennett) |
Most memorable moment: | Singing the National anthem before the 1991 county championship final to a packed Twickenham |
Funniest think you’ve seen on a rugby pitch: | The entire Wakefield pack snoring* against Otley when they couldn't move us |
Who/what do you miss the most? | Deep Heat and the dressing room craic |

Lockdown perception: | keeping my head down until i get the jab - to the younger ones run run and run |
*Otley thought they were good and weren’t getting nowhere against us infact we kept shouting to them “you’ll have to do better than that lads” so just before the next scrum Woody our 2nd row said “right lads I want you all to snore when we strike the next ball”
So sure enough all 8 of us were snoring
