Biography
Charlie “Brammers” Bramley
Position: Full-back
Started playing: Around age 5 or 6
Rugby runs deep in the Bramley family — with Charlie and his brother James both representing Selby’s 1st XV today, following in the footsteps of their dad Martin and grandad Don, who also proudly wore the Selby colours. It’s a true family legacy that stretches across generations — and Charlie’s been part of it from the very start, having joined the club as a Micro and never looked back.
His early playing days might not have been full of silverware, but one win stands out — lifting the cup at the Pocklington 7s as U14s, a rare and brilliant moment for a tight-knit group of mates.
Match-day prep is simple: a Nando’s the night before and little else. It clearly works — Charlie’s favourite moment in a Selby shirt came in 2024 when the team clinched the league title against Bridlington.
Growing up, his rugby hero was Jonny Wilkinson, but these days he looks up to Hola Vea — “He’s just class.”
The best advice he’s ever received?
“When you eventually grow, you’ll be a good player.” (He’s 6ft 4”!!)
If he could swap lives with a teammate for a day, it’d be Dan Reid — “He just plays golf five days a week.”
And when it comes to tackle practice, he’d prefer to avoid Pat Keetley — “One of the few backs who won’t agree to going 50%.”
Post-training, Charlie’s ideal meal is a chicken pasta bake, followed by some Adele on karaoke — the emotional range of a true full-back.
Biggest joker in the squad? Harry Clarke.
Slowest to get ready? James Dugher.
Most trusted to organise a night out? Max Wotton and Archie Bennett.
Playlist power? Liam Hogan and Sam Broughton get the nod — “Aren’t bad tbf.”
As for future coaches, he backs Webbo (Alex Webster) — “I can see him doing it sometime soon.”
What Charlie loves most about Selby RUFC is simple:
“The facilities are great — and the amount of people that follow the 1st XV.”
He credits Jamie Skelton as a big influence in his rugby journey and still laughs about his debut advice to himself:
“Moortown away is a tough debut — don’t be put off!”
How would the lads describe him?
“Hard as nails.” ?
His advice for the next generation?
“Don’t ever move clubs to York.”
And what does being part of Selby mean to him?
“Proud.”
