Match Preview: Selby 1st XV v Scarborough
Selby return to Sandhill Lane this weekend for what promises to be a great day of rugby as all three senior teams are in action. The 1st XV welcome a strong Scarborough side currently near the top of the table, while the 2nd XV and Women’s XV also play at home — setting up a full afternoon of rugby for players and supporters alike.
After a narrow defeat on the road at Old Brodleians last week, Selby will be looking to build on a run of improving performances. The team have shown plenty of determination and spirit, competing well against some of the league’s top sides and showing real progress under a new coaching structure.
Head Coach Jay Robinson said ahead of the game: “We’re still a new side coming together, but there’s clear progress each week. The players are growing in confidence, learning fast, and showing they can compete with anyone when they play to our strengths.”
Scarborough, coached by former England international Ben Foden, will provide another tough challenge. The visitors bring a mix of experience and physicality, but Selby’s growing cohesion and home support will make for a competitive and entertaining contest.
While the 1st and 2nd XVs kick off at 3pm and the Women’s XV begin at noon, the 3rd XV are on the road, making the trip to Ripon as they continue their strong run of form.
With a full day of rugby followed by the club’s Oktoberfest celebrations in the evening, it’s set to be another fantastic weekend at Selby Rugby Club.
