After last week's comfortable victory, Selby U13s knew that today’s fixture against an unfamiliar Scarborough side would be a tougher challenge. A disrupted warm-up added some early anxiety, but those concerns quickly disappeared once the game kicked off.
Selby started strongly, with the forwards laying solid foundations through powerful running and rucking, giving the backs the platform to play some stylish rugby. Early dominance saw Selby race into a 15–0 lead through well-taken tries from Rhys, Toby and Guy.
Scarborough, however, were far from finished. The visitors responded with three quick tries in succession, turning the momentum and putting Selby under real pressure.
Following a tight spell in midfield, Tyler broke the deadlock, slicing through the defence to restore Selby’s lead. With confidence growing, further tries followed from Oscar H, Isaac, and a second for Tyler L as Selby reasserted control.
A focus in recent training sessions has been the importance of building an unbreakable defensive ‘wall of green’, and today’s performance reflected that progress. Fynn’s relentless tackling, Thomas’ determined chase to halt a breakaway runner, and a superb debut tackle from Bentley on Scarborough’s standout player all showcased the collective effort. Every player contributed, and it was encouraging to see the group continuing to develop week by week.
The match ended in a well-deserved 35–15 victory, and the team now look forward to next week’s away trip to Hull Ionians.
