In this season’s first return fixture Selby exercised their full due of bragging rights over Northallerton as well as exorcising the memory of the seventy point drubbing meted out by their opponents last term
The score line does a disservice to North’s endeavour and courage. Sadly they were no match for a Selby unit hitting its stride.
Within minutes of the kick off the Swans nosed in front through a piece of elusive running by Mickey Parsonage. Moments later James Robinson was on the end of slick handling out wide to cross under the sticks and make Leigh Adamson’s conversion a formality.
James Blaymire joined in the fun dotting down to again provide Adamson with the simplest of kicks
North pressed Selby hard setting up camp deep in the Selby half however all attacks were sent packing and with five minutes to the break Selby struck back with a triple whammy as first Adam Roberts crashed over in the far corner quickly followed by a thundering burst over the whitewash by John Taylor. Robinson was again lurking with intent to put the finishing touches to a sixty metre dash. Adamson converting the latter two tries
Into the second half the Swans continued to pile on the agony with Roberts charging over again. Max Leighton then muscled through to touch down.
Roberts went over again for his third, Neil Venables made an all too rare excursion over the whitewash and with Aiden Pearce and Ben Spence crossing the scoreboard kept spinning ever higher. Conversions were a hit and miss affair with six different kickers trying their luck.
The official finally took pity on a Northallerton side unlucky not to score having crossed twice only to be denied by Selby holding the ball up.
Next weekend Sandal provide the opposition for a Selby side looking to finish 2012 off on a high note
