Selby RUFC 3rd Team 33
Hull Ionians RUFC 3rd Team 8
Writes James D’Lion
Hull where late arriving at Selby due to the regeneration works in town and after this game probably wished they didn’t turn up at all. Selby dominated from the off with the kick off being ran up field and recycled until reaching Phillips who was stopped yards short with a high tackle. The referee rightfully awarding a penalty try which Moore converted. Godfrey was next to score in acrobatic style by back flipping over the ruck after some good running by the Selby backs. Moore scoring a fantastic touch line conversion. Ionians regrouped after this and put together their best passage of play which resulted in them scoring a penalty kick then their big prop touching down in the corner. After stern words from captain Legoman Selby responded with a long kick down field into touch resulted in a catch and drive try for Wass. In the second half Selby again dominated but over confidence and silly mistakes kept the swans score down. That was until another great catch and drive in the line out resulted in Welsh squeezing over for a try. With the final play of the game came the try of the match with Houston receiving the ball in his own half darting down the touch line before stepping inside several of the opposition and scoring under the posts. Moore again converting.
The team play Middlesbrough in the final of the North Yorkshire Trophy on Sunday the 19th April at Ripon RUFC. There will be coaches available from Selby for anybody wanting to come and support the teams bid for glory. Your support would be much appreciated.
