Selby continued their winning streak which has left them unbeaten since Christmas with this emphatic win. But everything didn’t go to plan with a player not arriving for the kick off but a tactical master stroke by Phillips to play Daltry at flanker and move Godfrey to stand off where he ran the game from start to finish.
It was not all one way traffic though with Selby playing frantic rugby. Selby got into their stride with the first try coming after 15 minutes courtesy of Pearce, minutes later Pearce scored again after some good footwork. The first half came to a close when Howley scored from a rolling maul which brought the score to 21 – 0.
In the second half Selby ran riot making big tackles and playing some excellent rugby. Tries became a frequent affair with Howley adding another to his tally and Dunhill scoring 2. Price then made himself a try out of nothing jinking over the line from 30 yards. After this Malton realised their pride was at stake and raised their game tremendously in an effort to break their duck but this was to no avail as the defence held firm like it has all season.
Alan Parsonage scored the last points off the game in the dying moments to bring up the half century. Moore scored 4 conversions after being hampered by forgetting his kit bag and having to play in his pit boots. In this form Selby shouldn’t fear any team at their level, so long may it continue.
