Selby U15s Score Big at Tesco:
Rugby Team's Bag Pack Raises £284 for Upcoming Tour
The Selby Rugby Union Under 15s boys team traded their scrum caps for shopping bags today, successfully completing a fundraising bag pack at the local Tesco store in Selby.
The dedicated team managed to raise an impressive £284, which will go directly towards funding their upcoming tour. While the fundraising total was excellent, it was their exemplary behaviour and outstanding community spirit that truly stole the show.
The young players were universally commended by shoppers and store staff alike for their polite and respectful conduct throughout the day, showing the true spirit of the Selby Rugby Club goes far beyond the pitch.
Acts of Kindness Shine Through
Beyond the till, two boys in particular demonstrated exceptional maturity and kindness:
One young player was highly praised for assisting an elderly gentleman navigating the aisles on his mobility scooter. The gentleman was struggling to reach items on the shelves, and the thoughtful boy dedicated his time to escorting him up every single aisle until his shopping was completely finished.
In another touching moment, a second boy noticed a shopper struggling with heavy bags. He took the initiative to carry her shopping all the way out to her car, ensuring she didn't have to strain herself.
A Selby Rugby Club spokesperson stated, "We are incredibly proud of the boys. Not only have they raised a great amount toward their tour fund, but their actions today perfectly reflect the core values we teach—respect, teamwork, and community support."
The success of the day highlights the valuable role of the club in developing not just great athletes, but outstanding young members of the Selby community.
