Hello to all current members, players, parents and carers. At the AGM I was honoured to be nominated and voted in as Club Chairman. Firstly, I would like to thank James Abrams, my immediate predecessor and all the previous Chairs and members of the Board for the time and effort they have put in to make our Club what it is today.

My history with the Club comes through my son playing from Micros through to Colts and at the start of this asking if I could help out. From there it was a short step to looking after the squad, our Junior Festival and arranging fixtures. I even tried my hand at refereeing and still have my ACME Thunderer! In wanting to keep in touch with the Club and give something back to the game I said I was happy to volunteer in some way and the opportunity to stand for Club Chair came along. As always with rugby, I’ve made friends along the way at both Selby and beyond, hopefully in my new role I’ll make many more.

Over the last few years with Covid we have seen one of the biggest shocks to the country in living memory but thanks to the hard work of volunteers we at Selby RUFC have come through it. At our core we are a Club that provides facilities to play rugby at whatever age, gender or level and let people enjoy watching and supporting the game. To do this we need a solid financial base, a growing membership and sense of community. The Board can focus and work on the first of these but we need your help with the other two. Please tell friends and family about Selby RUFC, encourage them to come along and see what we have to offer. Selby RUFC is run by members for members and we are always looking for volunteers, if you feel you can help in some way just let us know.

This year we celebrate our 90th birthday, quite some achievement I’m sure you’ll agree. The new 90th Crest has been designed by Jamie Skelton, 2nd Team Captain and you will begin to see this around the Clubhouse as a reminder of what a great Club, with such history, we belong to. A big thank you to Jamie. He is, rightly so, very proud of this design as we are too!

To launch the year, Richard Besley, our new President and myself, would like to invite you to our 90th Anniversary Lunch at the first home match of the season against Dronfield on Saturday 9th September. This will be a fabulous first home match, one we are all looking forward to and showing our support to all our senior players in this season's campaigns. I do hope you will be able to join us, either at the lunch, or later at the match.
