Catering Review

Catering Review

Selby RUFC

@ Selby RUFC

Background

Ahead of the new season, we have carried out a full review of our catering operation over the summer. This included revised menus, updated kitchen systems and equipment, allergen information, and a formal catering contract to replace the previous arrangement. The aim was to bring catering fully under the club's own control and give us far more flexibility in what we offer players, members and visitors.

Our own Head Chef

Selby RUFC has now appointed its own Head Chef, Andy, who will run the club's catering going forward. Having a dedicated chef on a proper contract means we can plan food around what the club actually needs — training nights, matchdays, junior mornings and private events — rather than working around an outside provider. Menus will change regularly, and Chef Andy would be delighted to discuss menu ideas with players, parents and members.

Behind the bar

We've also changed our beer supplier over the summer, bringing in a new range of beers and ciders. Whether you're in for a pre-match pint, an after-training drink or a private function, there's plenty of new choice to enjoy.

Weekday training meals — Tuesday, Wednesday & Thursday

From next week, hot food will be available three evenings a week, during and after training on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings, for players, parents and supporters alike. This is a great chance to eat well after training, catch up with other members, and keep the clubhouse busy on midweek nights.

Saturday 1st XV matchdays

Every home 1st XV fixture will feature a sit-down pre-match lunch, each with its own theme and organisers. It's a great social occasion, an important source of income for the club, and we'd love to see as many of you there as possible.

For those who'd prefer something more relaxed, Dawson's Pie Bar — situated in Bar 22 — will be serving pie and a pint pre-match, the perfect quick option before kick-off.

Sunday juniors and minis

Sunday mornings are the busiest of the week with our juniors and minis, and it makes sense to look after the families who give up their weekend to be here. The kitchen will offer breakfast and grab-and-go options to keep players, coaches and parents fed and warm while the age groups are out on the pitches.

Private catering and events

The club has always offered private catering and clubhouse hire, and having our own chef and kitchen allows us to continue and strengthen this for a range of occasions:

  • Parties and celebrations — birthdays, anniversaries, christenings and club functions, with the clubhouse available to hire and menus tailored to the event.
  • Funeral receptions — a calm, well-priced venue with catering handled sensitively and a dedicated menu offering, giving families a straightforward local option.
  • Weddings — we are working towards a full wedding offering, with a venue licence planned for 2027, opening up a significant new opportunity for the club.

Every private booking is income that stays with the club and supports everything else we do.

Making it work

This is an exciting step forward, but the catering service depends on regular use. If it is well supported it will continue and grow; if it is not used, the club will not be able to sustain it. Please do encourage players, parents and supporters to come along and make use of it — every meal bought helps keep the service going for the whole club.

Talk to us

We want to get this right, so feedback is genuinely welcome — on menus, serving times, junior and family options, or private event enquiries. Please speak to Chef Andy or email catering@selbyrufc.com.
