Message from Selby RUFC Board

With the current restrictions and guidelines in place, we wanted to confirm to you all that the last Junior training will be this Sunday 20th December and the last Senior training Tuesday 22nd December. Junior training will return on Sunday 3rd January and seniors thereafter. An email confirming team training times has been sent this week to all managers and coaches. If your session has already been cancelled, that is still the case.

The Club has a duty of care for our staff, players, volunteers and members and we do not want to jeopardise the health and safety of you, our family and friends. We will continue to make decisions that are in the best interest of the Club in the short, medium and long-term. We base these decisions on the guidance from both the RFU and local restrictions and in particular we will consider the reopening of the bar in a phased and safe way, when it is economically viable to do so and of course balanced with the social needs of our members.

Whilst we would usually be spending Boxing Day together, we have taken the decision not to hold our annual Boxing Day match. With families mixing together over the festive period, and as mentioned previously, we felt it was only right to not put our rugby community and extended families under unnecessary risk. With Selby still in Tier 2 we would be unable to open the Clubhouse facilities and will, therefore, be closed from Wednesday 23rd December to re-opening on the 3rd January.

We are very much looking forward to a new year when we can start to play rugby following the RFU announcement that we can move into Stage E of their return to rugby roadmap. We are in discussions with local teams and as long as guidelines allow us, fixtures are provisionally being arranged for mid to late January. For senior rugby this presents more challenges than age grade rugby at present with the majority of Yorkshire clubs being in Tier 3. More details will follow in the New Year.

Also on the horizon is the opening of our Gym. We are taking the next few weeks to put procedures in place to be able to open safely and, again, details will follow.

We have had an interesting year, to say the least. We would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for sticking with us, keeping the Club going in difficult circumstance and we know that in 2021, and with your support, Selby RUFC will go from strength to strength.

May we wish you all a safe and enjoyable Christmas and we very much look forward to a better 2021 with you all.

Selby RUFC Board of Directors.
