Mud! Where?

Selby under 10's played away at Grange Park, Wetherby, this Sunday on a mild day. However, with the recent rain, there were somewhat muddy and slippy pitch conditions.

Selby fielded 2 teams of 8 with substitutes, against 2 teams from Wetherby, with Selby players, William Lonsdale, Frankie Watson and Harry Lamb offering to make up the Wetherby numbers which showed a good level and understanding of young sportsmanship. They each excelled with the opposition.

Selby team 2 played two matches in the boggy conditions and were evenly matched by the strong Wetherby youngsters. The Selby side played well together, showing that, perhaps that the skills taught to them this season by the coaches are now coming naturally, as they played with fluency and style throughout. The second game was a battle of the toughest of which Selby edged it by a whisker.

Selby team 1 had a mountain to climb in their first encounter, but with great teamwork, they made good the contest. As the morning was becoming afternoon, the second side they faced became victims of some stunning teamwork, grit and determination.

Although both teams played to a high level with a key understanding of the game, stand out performances went to Benjamin Cockeram, Jack Calam and Zachary Kierans in team 2. With William Tehan, Connor Dale and Gabe Shepard excelling for team 1.

All in all another fine morning of junior rugby.
