Game 1
Selby had the start quickly with a pass from Melissa Howden to Ben Hudson giving him the opportunity to run down the wing and score the opening try. Selby continued to look the stronger side with some good tackles from Nick Clarke and Eddie Liddle followed by string of passes from Melissa Howden to Thomas Gable on to Lauren McDermott and then Ben Hudson who continued the run and scored his hat-trick. Selby won the ball back and a run by Thomas Gable got Selby back into the Maltons half. Selby drove the ball deeper and deeper until just short of the try line Melissa Howden got the ball from the ruck and scored her first try this season leading to half time.

Game 2
With our second team now taking on Malton the game was dominated by them rather than us taking the game to them. Selby did have some very good periods with the ball but seemed to lack the killer instinct to score the tries, while Malton took every opportunity which resulted in the heavy loss.
Malton started brightly with runs down the wing, a push into touch near the try line saw them win the ball and score. Maltons 2nd and 3rd tries came one after the other. James Simpson made a good pass to Sam Flinders which led to a ruck which Malton turned over the ball. Selby made good tackles with Matt Youngs but Malton managed to push the ball into try area but couldn’t ground. Selby tried to push the ball down the field with passes between James Simpson, Josh Knowles and Brett Howden which led into a ruck which again Selby lost the ball and gave Malton the chance to score their 4th try.

Full Time Malton 8 Selby 0
The 2 games couldn’t have been any different from each other. Selby dominated the first game and sat back in the second game. While the first game opportunities were taken the second game lacked the confidence by them to take control of the game. All the players did well and should be pleased with the efforts they put in today.
