Selby 0 - Wetherby 8 Selby 2 – Wetherby 1 Selby 2 - Wetherby 1 Selby 1– Wetherby 5

Having had their previous 2 fixtures cancelled due to weather Selby had a home fixture against Wetherby. Selby had the first game in 3 weeks on a chilly Sunday morning and they took some time to get into the game.

Game 1 Selby 0 Wetherby 8
Wetherby started the game very lively and more awake then us and took the first game by 8 tries to nil. Although Selby did try and put some good tackles in but Wetherby was stronger in driving through the Selby players and making space and getting to the try line with speed. Selby scrummed well winning a number of them with Brett Howden but lost the ball in open play which the opposition capitalised on. Selby did put runs together with Matt Francis, Ben Abrams and Jack Riodan. They performed well in the rucks with Brett Howden and James Simpson retrieving the ball. Some strong tackles were also made from Lauren McDermott and Jack Riodan. Unfortunately the score does not reflect how hard they tried.

Game 2 Selby 2 Wetherby 1
With a change of the Selby players Selby had the start and had watched their team mates in the first game. Again Selby started well putting some good runs together. The game was tight which saw this game centred on the rucks and mauls Selby did these well with the driving force coming from Tom Scholfield and Harry Barlow. The score was opened by Selby by through Tom scholefield driving the ball forward with his team mates over the line. Selby did well making the tackles from Alfie Bugg which prevent Wetherby finding open space. Selby further advanced the score by Nick Clarke after winning the ball from the scrum and found a little open space to charge the short distance to the try line. With a little lapse of concentration Selby let Wetherby back into the game and they scored just before full time.

Game 3 Selby 2 Wetherby 1
With some of the players changed around again Selby continued how they had played the last game. These games saw some tackles by Matthew Francis and Jack Riodan which prevented Wetherby unable to again to find space. Selby once more opened the scoring by Tom Scholefield. Wetherby retaliated straight away and brought the score level. Matthew Francis again put Selby in the lead by driving the ball over the line. This game was dominated by driving ball forward in the rucks which Selby did well with help from Ben Abrams and Jack Riodan, along with preventing letting the opposition find open spaces by putting in good tackles from Jack Riodan and intercepting a pass by Harry Barlow. Selby did put some good short runs together from Matthew Francis, Jonathan Greene and Harry Barlow. Selby did well in the scrums winning more then they lost and strong support from the team

Game 4 Selby 1 Wetherby 5
With a swap of players Selby started looking the tied of the 2 sides and with a mistake from Selby letting the ball go loose Wetherby found space and opened the scoring. Selby tried to drive the ball forward with help from Nick Clarke Alfie Bugg and Brett Howden. But with the ball being stolen Wetherby again took advantage 2 more times. Selby tried to get back into the game and found the try line with Harry finding some space. Wetherby showed their strength and further advanced there score 2 more time to end the game Selby 1 Wetherby 5

Selby won 2 games and lost 2 games lack of match practice may have played a part, making sloppy mistakes and giving the opposition too much space which they took advantage of. Well done boys and girls for trying hard.
