A Good day for Rugby and a Great day for the U10's

On a day that started wet and gloomy before the start the Selby team were determined the weather was going to change into a very bright and beautiful day.

Game 1
Driffield started the brighter and after a scrum and several driving runs they opened the scoring. Selby didn’t let this hold them back and after a Selby knock-on won the ball back in the scrum which was passed from Michael Prosser to Eddie Liddle and then to Matthew Francis who equalised. Selby continued to push forward with runs by Matthew Francis and Ben Hudson only to be tackled and loose the ball. Selby rucked well with Connor Carberry, Ella Parsonage and James Simpson offloading. From a missed tackle by Selby Driffield picked up the ball and ran down the wing to take them into the lead again at half time.
Half time Selby 1 Drifield 2
Selby changed 3 players and started the second half with a run down the wing from Nick Clarke passing to Matthew Francis to once more equalise. Driffield fought back and from some bad defensive play by Selby again took the lead. Selby were determined they were not going to lose this match and from the restart a pass from Harry Barlow to Ben Hudson Selby equalise again. Driffield continued to pressurise Selby and from a scrum drove the ball over the try line. Once again Selby came from behind after a string of passes from Zac Cicero, Jude Smales, Harry Barlow and then to Nick Clarke who placed it over the try line. Selby pushed forward again and from a line out the ball was passed out to Ben Abrams who nicked it over the line and for the first time we has in the lead. Driffield was playing well and didn’t give up and responded to force yet another equalising try. Selby was determined to get the result from this match just before full time Harry Barlow made a run down the centre to take the win from a very close and hard fought match.
Final Score Selby 6 – Driffield 5

Game 2
Driffield started the second game which opened with Selby’s Tom Scholefield putting a tackle in to win the ball which he passed to Harry Barlow and with Tom Scholefield following him received the ball back to snick it down the wing to open the scoring. From the restart Selby were on top of this game and produced some great tackles from Melissa Howden and Alfie Bugg Harvey Catling. Having a majority of the procession Tom Scholefield made a run towards the wing and made a fantastic short pass to Alfie Bugg who was to his side and Selby anticipating the tackle passed it to Harry Barlow to make the final few strides over the try line. With Selby putting in some amazing tackles from Jack Roiden, Melissa Howden and James Bamford which again saw a pass to Alfie Bugg to run zigzagging past the Driffield players to see Selby score again. Selby was making Driffields day a nightmare and from the restart they were unable to prevent Selby continue to score 2 more tries from Alfie Bugg. Driffield got a try back again shortly after the restart only for Selby to respond with another try from Alfie Bugg just before half time.
Half time Selby 6 Drifield 1
The second half saw Selby make 2 changes. Selby had the start which saw Brett Howden make a run down the centre then past it to Alfie Bugg advancing to the try line and then passed it to Melissa Howden who drove it across the line with several Driffield players clinging to her. Lauren McDermott put in a great tackle to win the ball which was picked up by Tom Scholefield and passed to Alfie Bugg who once more scored. Driffield attempted to get back in the game with 2 tries when they caught Selby taking a breather. This Selby team was in punishing mood and just before full time had the last word with a try from Michael Prosser
Final Score Selby 9 – Driffield 3

Game 3
With a deflated Driffield team Selby played a final match. Driffield had the start but soon lost the ball in the ruck which was passed out to Ella Parsonage who ran through the Driffield defence to open the scoring. Selby was taking their time and with a good run from Ben Abrams who passed it to Ben Hudson who further advanced the score. Driffield did try to get back in the game but Selby was by far playing the better rugby using the training drills to good use and passing it across to each other which then saw the third try from Ben Abrams going into half time.
Half time Selby 3 Drifield 0
The second half started the same has the first ended with Selby very much in control, see good runs from Harry Barlow before Harvey Catling was passed the ball to advance Selby’s lead. Driffield had a great attempt down the wing halted by a great tackle from Ben Hudson pushing them into touch. Selby from the line out won the ball which allowed Matthew Francis run across the field to score Selby’s fifth. Selby’s last try came from a run by newcomer Jonathan Green who made a great run down the middle and passed it to Ella Parsonage who took it over the line.
Final Score Selby 6 – Driffield 0

It will be hard to take the smiles off the Selby team players today, they all worked well together and looked for the opportunities to pass to team mates and supported each other in the rucks. From a first game that was tightly fought to 2 further games that was dominated by Selby the day definitely turned out a very bright and beautiful day. Well done to everyone today let’s see more of this next week.
