Doncaster Vs. Selby Under 10s Match Report

Doncaster Vs. Selby Under 10s Match Report

Mark Bamford20 Nov 2013 - 10:05

A chilly Sunday morning away at Doncaster.

On a bright chilly remembrance Sunday morning Selby travelled the short distance to Doncaster. Everyone respected the 2 minutes silence in honour of those lost in conflicts.

Selby took enough for 2 teams while Doncaster fielded one. The Doncaster side as with many of our opposition this year seem to be a lot bigger then our team, but where they may be bigger in body we are bigger in spirit not letting their heads go down. With Selby split into 2 teams they took on Doncaster.

Game 1
Selby seemed to start off slowly making some silly mistakes but with a strong tackling force we kept pushing Doncaster back. With great team work between Jack Roiden, Tom Scholfield, Ben Hudson, Melissa Howden and Alfie Bugg in the rucks. Selby kept Doncaster in their own half most of the first half and won most of the scrums and line outs but just couldn’t open up the scoring.

Half time Doncaster 0 – Selby 0.

Selby stepped up for the second half and a good tackle by Melissa Howden on the wing stopping Doncaster getting the first try. This was followed by a good run by Ben Hudson which was pulled back for an infringement which gave the ball back to Doncaster, who then made a run down the wing to score the opening try. Selby didn't give up and with a good pass from Melissa Howden to Jack Roiden went down the wing only to go into touch. With the resulting Doncaster line out, Selby won the ball and it was passed to Tom Scolfield who scored the equaliser. Selby continued to keep Doncaster in their half but failed to make any further advances and the match ended in a draw.
Final Score Doncaster 1 – Selby 1

Game 2
With Selby’s other team now facing the strong Doncaster side they opened up the scoring almost straight away with a run down half the pitch. There was some great tackles put in by Brett Howden, Matthew Francis, Ella Parsonage and Eddie Liddle, but all to often Doncaster intercepted the ball and got to run away and time after time down the wings scored again and again and went into half time with the lead.

Half time Doncaster 6 – Selby 0.

The second half continued in much the same vein has the first but where Selby seemed to be feeling the cold Doncaster seemed to be only just warning up. Selby did try very hard with some good tackles put in by Brett Howden, Matthew Youngs, Jude Smales. Ella Parsonage tried to make a run through their defence and did make some ground but Doncaster had more strength. There seemed to be many decisions that didn’t go our way and Doncaster continued to steam roll through us and scored try after try again most of these coming from down the wings and Doncaster won the game.
Final Score Doncaster 14 – Selby 0

Selby went home with a draw and a loss and lessons to be leant, however small in body we are to our opposition we need to not let this effect our game.

Once again thank you to Jen & Rod for their match reports.
