A warm sunny day for some great rugby

On a beautiful warm Sunday morning Selby had their first fixture of the season. With both teams turning out big squads they were split into 2 teams each and all fired up to tackle each other. Playing 10 minutes each half.

Game 1
Selby started slow but showed some good tackles and rook skills in the first half but a stronger Selby came close to scoring from driving the ball forward with Thomas Gable. York side pushed back Selby hard and capitalised went into half time 3-0 down.
Good team work started the second half with Selby coming out to fighting to an opening try by Matthew Francis. York responded to score 2 more times though tacking the opportunities. Just before full time Selby prevented York scoring again from by pushing hard in the scum.
Final Score Selby 1 - York 5

Game 2
The other Selby team also started slow allowing York to take advantage down the blind side to open up the scoring. There was good defensive play by both teams and Selby responded to make the scores level with a try from Alfie Bugg. York hit back to take the lead at half time 2-1.
The second half started move lively for Selby only allowing York to score one more time. Selby pushed throughout the second half with 2 try saving tackles by Tom Scholfield. Selby enhanced there score 3 more times with tries from Ben Abrams, James Bamford and poachers try by Alfie Bugg.
Final Score Selby 4 – York 3

With both teams swapped to play the other the team and the games began again.

Game 3
Selby took on the second York team which started with York opening the score. Selby responded by pushing hard and good team work with Ben Hudson passing to Matthew Francis who ran down the wing only to lose the ball just before the try line trying to keep in touch. York responded with a similar move down the wing only to score a try. York stole the ball from our line out to score again. An offside by York gave Selby an opportunity to push forward but a strong York side won the ball. Half time York was in front 4-0.
The restart was lively with both sides winning and losing the ball. York again pushed the harder and scored 3 more times. Selby worked hard and tried didn’t allow their heads to drop and was rewarded by a consolation try by good interaction from Michael Prosser allowing Ben Hudson to score a consolation try before full time.
Final Score Selby 1 – York 7

Game 4
In their second game York started well and Selby defended well with Sam Flinders getting good tackles in and good movement by the backs. Neither side was able to break the deadlock going into half time 0-0.
The second half saw both sides pushing hard. Tackle upon tackle prevented York opening the score. Eddie Liddle had a good run down the wing only to be stopped by good defensive play by York. But York couldn’t hold back Selby anymore and the deadlock was opened by a try from Tom Scholfield. York responded with 2 quick tries. Time was nearing the end and Alfie Bugg pulled out an equalising try just before full time.
Final Score Selby 2 – York 2

With the not a cloud in the sky Selby started the season with a Win, Draw and 2 loses. The whole Selby team was never dropped their heads and enjoyed the opening Sunday Morning.
