1st Game
Selby started the game well fronting up against the bigger, if slower, Ionian Pack. It was good to see that the disappointment of a weak display at ruck and maul against Dinnington was soon forgotten with some frenzied rucking by Oliver, Fraiser and Brandon who were well supported by the backline.
After the initial sparring Selby settled and the backs started to move the Ionians heavy weights around the field with Tom, Reuben and Will probing for weaknesses in the Hull line. Due to the effort of the Selby front three who secured good ball in setpiece against much heavier opponents, Selbys backs were getting good quick ball from Harry at scrum half and were unlucky not to score being penalised for a double move when tackled near the line.
The Selby backs were now passing the ball well and Reuben took advantage of pressure being excerted on the Hull line to make a good break in the centre of the park to dart over and score the first try of the game.
The second half started with Man of the Match Reuben giving a superb demonstration in the art of tackling, knocking over the Ionians big prop every time he got the ball, this display of outright hostillity by Selby seemed to put the Hull team on the back foot and Will took advantage picking up and driving over the line to score Selbys second try. Ionians spurred on by the second try attempted to get back into the game but fierce tackling by all the Selby team kept the Hull team out. The display was good all round effort by the whole team with the game being played in a good spirit.
2nd Game
The game initially started well with the Selby forwards again fronting upagainst their heavier apponents and winning good ball in the loose and setpiece. Unfortunately the backs were under used and this allowed the Ionians to slow the play into a grinding forward dominated battle of attrition, this played somewhat into the hands of the bigger forwards of the hull side.
Alfie carried the ball well when the backs were used but some inaccuratepassing inhibited the backs from getting into their stride. Ionians scored their first try well into the first half, after some good play from their forwards. Olly T then had to leave the field due to an injury which meant some changes in the back line with Lester dropping back into Scrum half and Joe going to Fly half. The second half started with Selby and Hull involved in the forwards arm wrestle of the first half with Selby holding their own well, unfortunately a number of loose passes did not go to hand which made thegame slow which benefitted the Hull pack which looked to be tiring.
The game at this point was in the balance with no side dominant until Sam recieved a pass out wide and showed his electric pace to evade the Ionian defenders to run over half the length of the field to score a great try. This score line would have been a fair reflection on the game but with the last play of the game Hull won set piece ball and scored in the corner.
