Selby’s under 9 squad had another epic encounter this Sunday when Wetherby visited the Sandhill Lane club and after a respectfully observed two minute silence the two sides faced up.
The under 9s met Wetherby at the Yorkshire mini festival held early this season and they had been easily overcome. However, Wetherby had clearly done some work in training as this was a squad with a different attitude and approach.
Selby were once again leaking badly at the wing – a work in progress for an otherwise tight squad – and Wetherby scored freely. The team rallied and after a flurry of tries the poor defending was incidental as the balance was tipped toward Selby’s stylish play and otherwise strong teamwork.
Stand out performances from Harry Lamb, Ollie Love, Frankie Watson, Gabriel Sheppard, Tyler Higgins and Eddie Campbell Baldwin.
All the boys and girls have worked hard in training to achieve a very high standard of gameplay across the squad and the coaches are continually encouraged by the skill levels being achieved.
Children wishing to play rugby are welcome to start with the club at any time during the season, once subscribed and an appropriate standard has been reached they are encouraged to play in friendly matches with other clubs. This is a great way to be fit and healthy, and to meet other kids outside their usual peer groups.
