Hull Ionians

For our first match of the 2021 season we played against Hull Ionians and Hessle. 26 Selby children attended and split into 3 teams. Games against Hull were hard fought and made this a tough opener for us as they had already played 2 games this season.
All 3 teams played well and dug deep even when the games weren’t going their way. They showed great resilience to continue to try and break through a tough defence and score tries against them.
The Hessle team gave us an easier time and let the kids showcase some of the skills that they have with some excellent offloads and quick footwork allowing us to get a good few tries.
All in all, it was a good day and the children should be proud of holding their own and keeping calm even when faced with such a tough game.
We asked the teams to work on 3 items today, defensive line, moving forward and communication. These were achieved well and there was some good communication after the games where children were commending each other on play or offering advice, some very grown up attitudes.
Onwards and upwards to our next games.
