Selby RUFC Women’s 1st XV continued their outstanding start to the season with a 17–0 victory over Malton & Norton in their first home league fixture of the campaign at Sandhill Lane.

Tries from Marija Hiscott, Honor Ratcliffe, and Ella Deighton sealed a well-earned win in challenging conditions, rounding off a perfect weekend for the club, with all four senior sides recording victories.

Head Coach Jack Coates praised the performance, highlighting both the progress being made and the growing confidence within the squad:

“We’re really pleased with another win. It wasn’t always easy, but the girls have started the season really strongly and we couldn’t ask for much more. We’ve introduced a lot of new systems and structures this year, and the players are adapting brilliantly — you can really see it starting to come together.

“We were missing a few today, so to see the squad’s depth and versatility shine through was especially pleasing. Players are stepping up, covering different positions, and really buying into the team effort.

“But perhaps the most satisfying thing is our defence. Malton put us under real pressure at times, especially close to our line, but the girls’ resilience and commitment to keeping them out was exceptional. As a coaching group, that’s something we’re incredibly proud of.”

The win keeps Selby’s early-season momentum rolling, maintaining their unbeaten run and showcasing the strength, spirit, and growing depth of the Women’s XV. With new players bedding in and performances improving week by week, there’s plenty for the squad — and supporters — to be excited about as the season progresses.
