Selby lose to strong Nestle outfit

Selby 3rd Team V Nestle Rowntree 1st Team

Selby 3's 19 - Nestle 1's 27

Despite an outstanding performance by Selby 3rd Team they came away without league points after a gruelling game which seesawed throughout the match controlled excellently by the referee. Nestle started very strongly with ex Selby first team player Jack Daniels controlling things from 10 but Selby's defence held for long periods without the ball, eventually following a clearance kick, an outstanding take by Adam Cook put Selby in control, the ball was shipped to Justin Dorrell who outskipped the defence to round the cover and go over near the corner. Neither side dominated or gave any ground and following a mistake by Selby the ball was turned over and pressure from Nestle created a try to put them level. Strong running from last seasons 3rd Team player of the year Kev Lamb eventually paid off to put Selby in front again, this was not to last as Nestle capitalised on a break down in communication and levelled the score to 12-12.
Selby then went ahead 19-12 following a mazy run by Adam Cook from his own half getting caught just before the line but with the ever aware Kev Lamb on hand to claim his second try of the match.
Nestle were not to be outdone and unloaded their sizeable bench of high quality players who made a big difference with their hard running at a tiring Selby who had given their all and following the departure of the quality Charlton McCoy Nestle found space to equalise again. Selby came back at Nestle and were generally gaining the upper hand in the scrums but then replacement scrum half Simon Greenhaigh, who had been giving a good account on his 3rd Team debut was sin binned which gave Nestle the edge they required to get over wide out and put the score to 24-19. Selby were not giving up and then game was evenly contested until Nestle's impressive Hooker took an opportunist drop goal to put Nestle out of reach and deny Selby a losing bonus point.
The whole Selby squad deserve a mention, especially the players who turned up following a late rallying call to try and fill up the bench and ended up playing most of the game.
