Selby’s third team secured a hard-fought 24-17 win over Yarnbury thirds. In a game full of commitment and energy, the side blended youthful enthusiasm with experienced heads to come out on top.
The "youthful" front row of Copperwheat, Barrett, and Askin provided real power in the scrum and were tireless around the park, setting the platform for Selby to play on the front foot. Behind them, Randall controlled things superbly from number 8, showing both guile and leadership as he marshalled the pack and linked play with the backs.
Yarnbury proved stubborn opponents, defending well and capitalising on Selby’s few mistakes to keep the game close, but Selby’s superior work rate and fitness showed in the latter stages. A couple of well-constructed tries and solid defensive organisation ensured the home side maintained control as the clock wound down.
Both squads were able to name strong benches, giving valuable game time across the squad and maintaining intensity throughout. The result capped another positive weekend for the club, with strong performances and depth evident right across all senior teams.
