3rds bow out of the North Yorks Trophy

Selby's 3rds bowed out of the North Yorkshire Trophy after a bruising Semi Final away at North Ribblesdale 2's. Selby will feel like it was a opportunity lost with key players missing through unavailability, injury or lack of commitment. A problem right through the club this season.

Playing the game on what can only be described as a boggy marsh which killed any chance of the game being one for the free flowing running game Selby so often deploy. Ribb on the other hand knew exactly how to play the conditions and the defensive effort they put in was quite something as Selby battered them time and time again only to be rebuffed at nearly every opportunity. This was energy sapping work and in the end Selby ran out of steam.

Ribb spent very little time near the Selby line as most of the times they set good attacking platforms they either knocked on or ran out of men. However the 2 tries they scored were simple and well executed and that was the difference on the day. Selby often choosing the wrong option or being smashed backward by the stern Ribb defence.

All in all it was a disappointing way to finish the cup run and more than likely the season. It was however a good day out and Ribb were worthy winners who all stayed behind for some beer. The hat completion was won by Rob Jagger and the losing hat worn by Jim Wood (Blatantly stolen from his kids) was pointed out as being a jibe at the local sheep farming community....pretty much the entire village of Settle and Ribb.
