Looking to maintain their 100% record

Selby 2nds welcomed Scunthorpe to Sandhill lane this week, and were looking to maintain their 100% record and add another victory to make it 5 from 5
In glorious autumnal sunshine Selby ran out convincing winners over a dogged Scunthorpe team with a 9 try haul. Final score 55-5.
Skipper for the day Millar McCoy led by example, after winning the toss it wasn't long before he crashed over the line for the first try of the day. A Scunthorpe mistake from the kick off turned possession over to Selby and some great interplay between forwards and backs saw the space open up. The young hooker burst through the gap and finished from 20 metres. The conversion sailed through the posts from Ash Winstanly and Selby were off and running.
Selby dominated the first exchanges and Scunthorpe were having to defend wave after wave of promising Selby attacks. After an infringement led to a Selby penalty. The kick at goal was declined by a confident Ash Winstanly who opted for the corner.
The line out was gathered by the athletic salmon like Jo Romaniw and the juggernaut of a Selby driving maul marched the Scunthorpe pack over their own try line. A jubilant josh booth emerging with ball for Selby’s second try of the day, conversion was added from the touchline and a 14-0 lead.
From the restart, Scunthorpe came back into the game. With strong running forwards Selby had to work hard with a couple of penalties giving them line out and territory in Selby’s 22. Selby’s back row combination of Walker and Calvert tackled everything keeping them at bay. A great turn over from Walker on Selby try line, Adamson saw the gap and with a great off load to Tunningly, Selby turned defence into attack. He dashed 30 metres the ball was moved through the hands quickly and powerful running centre Rob fox went in for the try a rare miss saw the ball sail just wide and conversion was missed. Selby now led 19-0
Selby were now rampant the young side full of confidence throwing the ball around and tiring the ageing Scunthorpe pack. But Scunthorpe never gave up and that attitude thwarted several scoring opportunities for Selby. Firstly Nick Firth held up over the line, and Marcus Loveday was unlucky not to go in for a full length interception with a last ditch tackle from the full back and touch judge raised his flag and the try was chalked off.
Half time approached and Selby were creating plenty of chances, but couldn't find the final pass. Scunthorpe wished they had brought a ball of their own to play with as they hadn't touched it for a while as phase after phase of Selby play saw the ball recycled quickly, As the defence tired it was Nick Firth who capitalised with a show and go and he was through. With pace to rival Usain Bolt he went in under the sticks the referee being the closest to him by some 30 metres. The conversion was added and Selby went into the half time break 26-0 in front.
A superb first half and confidence was high going into the second half but it was Scunthorpe who started the second half stronger. After a mistake from the kick off Selby were under pressure and after a series of drives from Scunthorpe the second row stretched to get the score. The conversion was missed.
The try from Scunthorpe galvanised Selby and it wasn't long before they scored again. Alex walker supported a line break from Jamie Bingle And Selby pushed the scoreboard on the conversion was added by Winstanly. Score 33-5
Selby then made several changes with welcome returns from injury saw Blaymire, Booth and Randell add enter the game and promising half back Harry Cruise
Selby’s 6th try was a thing of beauty straight running and passing to the man in space patient build up phases the ball was recycled quickly young cruise sent the ball wide to Patrick Keelty who showed great footwork and power get himself into space before rounding the last defender for a great try Another difficult conversion was added from the touchline by the improving Winstanly 40-5
Scunthorpe heads then dropped and with the superior fitness and youth of the Selby team coming to the fire two further scores were added.
Rob fox crashed over after a superb line break from Jo shaw saw a cheeky offload put his centre partner in unselfishly under the sticks, conversion was added yet again from Winstanly 47-5
Scunthorpe never gave in but Selby were too good on the day and final try from returning Blaymire capped off a very pleasing performance for the young squad. The conversion was the last kick off the game and with all eyes on Winstanly the young ten struck the ball confidently and it sailed through the uprights. Final score Selby 55 Scunthorpe 5.
Coach Quinn a man of few words when asked about his side today said "what a performance. I'm so proud of all the boys today. I'm going to buy each of them a beer because that was fantastic. We've now won 5 from 5 and have a great mix of youth and experience in the squad and were improving each week. Still some things to work on but we were impressive today, we have a talented group and were looking forward to next week already.
