The 1st XV head to Moss Valley this afternoon looking to build on last week’s 46-26 bonus-point win over Malton and Norton. That win followed victory over Pontefract, and Selby currently sit 4th in the table.
The attack is in good form. Eight tries against Malton came from across the side. James Bramley and Lucian Letorey each scored twice, and Ash Parkinson’s try took him to four for the season. Harry Clarke, James Hunt and Ben Lodge also crossed, and Ben Poskitt kicked three conversions. The pack laid the platform again, with the front row of Moores, Todd and Wotton dominating the scrum.
Will Carr is out after the knee injury he suffered against Malton, and everyone at the club wishes him a speedy recovery.
There is a call-up for Ben Cockeram, another Green to Gold player who has come up through our junior section. It’s a proud moment for Ben and his family and for everyone who has coached him along the way. Good luck, Ben.
Moortown is always a difficult place to go and no love lost between the two sides. They are a well-organised, physical side who make every visitor work for the points, so expect a tough contest. The message to the squad is simple: keep heads up, don’t get riled, stick to the game plan and play your best rugby. Discipline will matter. Two yellow cards last week were a reminder that games can turn when we’re a man down.
Supporters travelling to Leeds: after the dry summer we’ve just had, conditions have turned much wetter this week. Storm Austen swept across the country on Friday, and forecasters expect a second system, likely to be named Storm Boelo, to bring wind and heavy rain to the north later today. In Moortown it’s a cloudy 7°C, rising to about 12°C, with rain possible. Wrap up warm, bring waterproofs and an umbrella, and allow extra time for the journey.
