A special evening at Sandhill Lane saw the Selby U12s play their first-ever fixture under the new floodlights, hosting local rivals Goole RUFC in front of a great crowd of families and supporters.

All the stops were pulled out to make it a proper match-day experience — full use of the changing rooms, players arriving in shirt and tie, a post-match meal, and even a team talk from 1st XV player Antun, whose words of encouragement set the tone perfectly. The boys were buzzing from the start, eager to show how far they’ve come this season.

Goole played extremely well and provided a strong, physical test throughout. It was a well-fought and competitive game played in great spirit, with both teams showing excellent rugby and teamwork.

Selby’s tackling was a real highlight, with Jack F. leading the defensive effort. Freddie O. carried the ball strongly throughout, while Rhu R. and Jonah G. showed great speed in attack. Jack M. managed the kicking game well, keeping Selby in good field position, and Oli U. was solid under pressure at full-back. A special mention to Oli S., whose determined run through several defenders led to an outstanding try that typified the team’s commitment.

Selby came away with a 4–1 victory, but more importantly, both sides produced an excellent display of junior rugby. Everything the Selby coaches have been working on in training came together on the night — a real team effort and a proud moment for the players and their families.

Man of the Match: Freddy T. for an all-round performance full of energy and composure.

A great evening of rugby between two developing sides — one that will live long in the memory as the U12s’ first experience under the Sandhill Lane lights.
