Selby RUFC u18 Girls are celebrating Regional Cup glory after a superb all-round performance saw them overcome a spirited Chesterfield RUFC side in a physical and fiercely contested final.
While the final score underlined Selby’s clinical edge, this was far from a one-sided affair. The contest was built on relentless forward dominance, defensive discipline and moments of attacking brilliance that ultimately proved decisive.
Clinical Finishing Proves the Difference
Selby’s attacking unit was in outstanding form, with Milly Force delivering a remarkable four-try performance to spearhead the victory. Her pace and eye for the line repeatedly exposed gaps in the Chesterfield defence and earned her the opposition’s Player of the Match award.
Evelyn added a try of her own and was assured from the tee, landing three conversions, while Megan crossed the whitewash and added a conversion to cap an influential display. Tayla and Elodie also powered over to ensure Selby kept the scoreboard ticking throughout.
Game-Changing Moments
One of the defining moments of the match came through Tayla’s sharp defensive instincts. Reading the play perfectly, she intercepted a Chesterfield pass and accelerated clear, turning defence into attack in a matter of seconds and leaving the opposition scrambling in her wake.
Megan orchestrated proceedings with composure and vision, controlling tempo and territory. A beautifully executed cross-field kick to Milly highlighted her playmaking ability, creating one of the standout tries of the afternoon.
Built on Forward Power
While the backs provided the cutting edge, Selby’s dominance was forged up front. The forward pack delivered a tireless performance, securing possession under pressure and laying the platform for attacking opportunities.
Jazz epitomised the side’s determination. Despite giving away size to many opponents, she tackled relentlessly and carried with real authority. Prop Scarlett, making her return after several weeks out injured, produced a wholehearted 80-minute display. A crucial late turnover and thunderous tackle in the closing stages summed up Selby’s refusal to relent.
Recognition
Milly Force was named the opposition’s Player of the Match following her four-try haul, while Annie earned the Selby Coaches’ Player of the Match award for her outstanding contribution across the park.
This victory marks a significant achievement for Selby, showcasing not only attacking flair but resilience, structure and unity — qualities worthy of Regional Cup champions.
