u18s Face Old Crossleyans and Tynedale RUFC

On Sunday 20th October, the Selby under 18 girls travelled to Old Crossleyans to play a fixture against both the home team and Tynedale RUFC who had travelled down from the North.

The Selby girls started by playing Tynedale, who may have beaten us in the end, but the Selby girls played to their own advantages and had some amazing runs by all the players on the pitch. Selby had physicality which was shown by their ability to win the ball from many of the rucks and hit some great tackles. As it is usually the case, it took a while for Selby to warm up to the game, but after a quick try from Tynedale they soon got stuck in and ran some hard lines into Tynedale's defence. In the end, Tynedale won 25-0 but the score does not reflect the tremendous effort the Selby girls put in. They held their heads high and carried on their great rugby play to the next match against Old Crossleyans.

Despite the loss in the first game, Selby went onto the pitch against Old Crossleyans with amazing perseverance and proceeded to score an early try from Ellie Green which was then converted by Louise Dawson. Again, the girls showed great resilience and physicality which was rewarded by winning many rucks and scrums. The girls again ran some great lines which led to another phenomenal try from Agi however sadly it wasn’t allowed as we were brought back for our penalty.

The new team of girls are beginning to show their strengths and gell together with some great tactical play. Their strength in the scrum was evident and are gaining in confidence to try new moves.

All in all, the Selby under 18 girls showed great rugby spirit, work ethic and sportsmanship on and off the pitch.
