Selby u18s Take on Old Brods

Selby's u18s have had a welcome boost of numbers from the upcoming u15s and a band of players coming North from Doncaster way.

With 26 players to choose from, managing game time for Selby girls was the order of the afternoon - but for a first outing was managed well and everyone got their allotted play.

For both teams this was the first match of the 2019/20 season and players were keen to get going. Evenly matched for the first 20 minutes both sides had good game play and scoring was plenty. At the end of the first quarter Selby were in the lead by 20 points to 19.

From then on, Selby dominated play with fresh players and rolling subs aplenty, Olds Brods quickly tired and gained injuries along the way. Great runs from Selby's Isobel Stevens (2), Charlotte Cavill (2), Aggy Hornostaj, Leah Liddle, Ella Parsonage, Charlotte Carter and Louise Dawson (2) who also did some great kicking and converted five times. All the girls played well, finding their pace and remembering the laws and skills learnt and gelling as a new team.

In the final 20 minutes, Selby leant Brods four players to ensure the afternoon's rugby ended with enough rugby played.

For the new u18 coaches Ian Ramsay and Paul Bradley and returning Will Stoker it was a great opening start to the season. Lots to learn and take forward and that's not just names and the girls' characters!!

A very positive and promising season ahead.

Next week all three girls teams are at home against close rivals Sandal, but the u18s will face them with more confidence and determination than ever before - watch this space!
