The Selby U18 girls turned up to a very windy West Park. Joined by three girls from Hull they were determined to have a good match - which they did, despite the score.
This should have been a cup match, but due to Selby's numbers, it turned into a friendly development match. WPL are a well trained and focused group of girls and have played together for many years. This showed from the off, but the Selby girls stuck to their game plan and showed some great play and individual skills. Four tries and two conversions for the Selby girls was testament to their determination and their ever growing maturity, however WPL found the gaps and were consistent scorers.
All the Selby players should be congratulated for their grit and fortitude throughout the 60 minutes, battling with chilling wind and some hard battle wounds that will be felt today.
Weather permitting, the girls will travel to Ryton, Newcastle for a return match next Sunday. Ryton will see much improvement from the Selby girls.
