Selby U16 Girls travelled to Sandal on Sunday for what promised to be a highly competitive fixture, following a hard-fought encounter earlier in the season that Sandal edged 29–5, despite the scoreline not fully reflecting how closely contested the match had been. Since that meeting, Selby have grown significantly as a squad, showing clear improvement in both confidence and cohesion, and expectations were high for a competitive contest.

The game did not disappoint. From kick-off, both sides played fast-paced, free-flowing rugby, producing an entertaining and physical encounter for the spectators. Selby started strongly, matching Sandal’s intensity and showing real intent in attack. Despite Sandal applying pressure and scoring key tries, Selby responded with determination and skill, taking a narrow lead into half-time with the score Sandal 31 – Selby 45.

The second half continued in the same competitive fashion, with both teams refusing to give ground. Sandal pushed hard to close the gap, but Selby’s improved teamwork, defensive effort, and willingness to keep the ball alive proved decisive. Selby showed great resilience and composure to maintain their lead and finish strongly.

At full time, Selby had successfully overturned their earlier defeat, securing a deserved 60–51 victory over Sandal. Both teams should be proud of the quality of rugby on display and the matched effort throughout the match.
