

Selby Swans U16 girls produced an outstanding all-round performance to secure a convincing 72–0 victory away against a spirited and courageous Dinnington side, running in an impressive 12 tries in a match played in great spirit throughout.
Despite the scoreline, this was a physical and competitive contest, with Dinnington showing tremendous heart and determination from first whistle to last. Selby’s defensive effort was particularly notable, with strong tackling, excellent line speed and disciplined organisation ensuring they kept their line intact against a determined home attack.
Going forward, Selby showcased a wonderful array of tries, mixing powerful carries with slick hands and intelligent support play. The scoring was well spread across the team, highlighting the depth and teamwork within the squad. Sophie, Mila and Leila each crossed for a try, while Lilly added two with some strong running lines. India also bagged a brace, Lucy M added her name to the scoresheet, and Emily led the way with an excellent four-try haul, showing great pace and finishing throughout the match.
A special moment came in the second half when number 8 Lucy Force stepped up to land a superb conversion from the sideline, drawing the biggest cheer of the day from teammates and spectators alike.
Credit must go to the hosts, Dinnington, whose positive attitude and never-say-die spirit never wavered, making them gracious and welcoming opponents throughout. The excellent hospitality continued after the final whistle, with top-notch post-match food enjoyed by all.
The match was not without concern, as Selby players Molly and Ruby were both taken to A&E for precautionary injury check-ups. The whole club wishes them both a speedy recovery.
Overall, a dominant performance from Selby Swans built on strong defence, teamwork and respect for the opposition, in what was an excellent advert for girls’ rugby.
