The Selby Pens' second Yorkshire Cup Match started on a positive note on Sunday, with a great defence from the all the Pens, who were under pressure from the opposition. This defence from the start led to an early try from Eva Abbott. The action continued shortly after with an incredible kick from Ella Parsonage, chipping the ball over the opposition, before running through to collect and taking it home for a second try. Ella’s confidence continued to grow during the match resulting in a total of 5 tries scored. Agi and Eva kept the score ticking up with 4 successful conversions during the match.
Selby’s good defence continued and was tested towards the end of the first half, but by half time the Pens had a convincing lead. The second half started with a comeback from the opposition who scored two tries, but the Pens held their nerve and their defence stayed strong, with great tackles completed by Abi Moore and Sophie Barlow.
More tries from the Pens followed as they started to outclass the opposition, the final score being 63 points to 19. All the girls gave it their best, worked as a team, taking them home to another great win. The match was the debut for Grace Rice, who played well and is a welcome addition to the team.
This game gives the Pens a second win in their cup run, currently placing them top in their pool and putting them in a strong position for their next match against Bridlington on Sunday.
