Sunday 15th October – Yorkshire Cup Match Selby U15 v Moortown 55-5
It was a beautiful day for Selby U15’s first cup match of the season, the girls played on the first team pitch and boosted by the substantial number of spectators. The day began on a sad note with a minute’s silence as a mark of respect for a young player from the Sandal team who tragically lost her life this week.
Selby began confidently with great run and an early try from Ella Parsonage, with the second try close behind from Izzy Sturmey and a great first conversion for Eva Abbott. After a fumbled restart Eva made a spectacular run for line from the home 22-yard line scoring try number three. The opposition were outclassed as Selby put another five tries past them, but under extreme pressure played on valiantly and came back with a try just before half time. Moortown started the second half with renewed vigour and challenged the Selby girls defence, scoring a second try. But it was Selby’s day and they continued to dominate the game, scoring a further four tries. It was a great afternoon of rugby, the girls worked well as a team and this win will undoubtedly boost confidence going forward.
