Selby u15 Girls Festival

Over 18,000 women and girls are currently playing rugby in England and this enthusiasm for the sport was in evidence as Selby RUFC hosted a very well supported girl’s rugby festival on Sunday 19th March. Teams from all over Yorkshire including teams from Scarborough, Malton, York and Sandal attended this fantastic celebration of girl’s rugby. It was a great sight to see - four pitches full of girls playing and supporting. Our White Roses of Yorkshire showed they can thrill and entertain like their England role models.

The Selby Pens under 15’s squad were spurred on by England’s women’s squad grand slam victory in the Women’s Six Nations and they turned up determined to put on an outstanding team effort.

The Pens under 15’s had a testing start with a narrow loss to Scarborough but with help from their coaching team of Mike Parsonage and Jason Cicero they re-grouped and went to triumph over York and draw with Malton. The last game saw them face Sandal, a team they had lost heavily to earlier this season and an epic battle ensued. The girls fought every point and lost narrowly. All the girls have been delighted by the praise they have received from not only their supporters and coaches but the referees and opposition coaches and they continue to develop and improve.
