Sandal Festival

Scarlett has written the match up for us this week -

On Sunday the 9th of October, the Under 14 Selby girl's team came back victorious after participating in the sandal festival. We played seven games in total and here's how it went.

In 3 of our games, we played North Derbyshire (5-1), Harrogate (5-0) and Scarborough (9-1) and won by a substantial difference, see above. The first match was against a combined team plus two volunteers of our own team (Ciara and Scarlett) as the other team were down some players.

Yet the competition started to get tricky as we began to play Sandal, who we have played in the past, yet we stayed as a team, communicated and congratulated each other on our successes. In an ending of 2-1.

Throughout the day we had been watching other teams' games and one that stood out to us was Burton, as we had not previously played them, this is the team we needed to play in order to qualify for the final. We were slightly nervous as the game began but we were persistent. There were quite a few scrums/lineouts within this game so splendid work by our forwards. All of this resulted in a high-spirited win (6-1).

And then there were two. Our final was up against Mansfield who was also determined to win just like us. It was a close match and tensions were high. But with Milly’s try/ scoring saving tackle and a whole team's endurance; including Maisie's response to a friendly injury. We again came out victorious and undefeated once more (1-0)

Highlights from/ to the players: shout out to Megan (captain), Taylor(vice-captain), Evie, Kiera, Ciara, Eleanor, Emily and Milly for some amazing tries and runs. Due to some cracking turnovers, from the ruck and scrum, by Scarlett (vice-captain), Grace, Izzy, Evelyn and more. With a special mention to Eleanor for an amazing offload. For the majority of the day, Lucy was with the U12 playing their tournament (as they were a player short), which they also won. Lastly, an amazing effort from everyone with tackling, and sportsmanship and I look forward to our next match.
