Selby girls U13s v Sandal

Girls Under 13 – Selby 6 Vs Sandal 10 10th November 2019

On an absolutely beautiful day down at sandal lane, Selby. The U13 girls were preparing to host Sandal RUFC, and after a well-respected 2-minute silence on remembrance Sunday the game began.
A fast and furious start by sandal lead to the visitors scoring the opening try with some great ball handling skills and running the ball out wide to score, but Selby were not disheartened by this and immediately responded with a great break by Zoe Kilgar who placed the ball down over the line with a beaming smile on her face. Some great tackling especially by Chloe Hawe and Hannah Stead and some equally good counter rucking by Abigail Lyons and Chloe Barlow stopped Sandal in their tracks, but eventually Sandal ran in 3 unanswered try's. Again Selby looked good on the break and with some great scrum half play from Poppy Liddle who passed the ball from the scrum and Freya Clayton weaved her way to score a well worked try, another try from Sandal from the restart was then matched by a powerful run from Chole Barlow who ran 30m to score, a fast and furious first 15 minutes just finished off with Isabel Addinall flying down the wing and nearly scored a wonderful solo effort but the Sandal girls tracked back well and managed to stop Izzy just before the line.
The next 15 minutes saw another great battle in the middle with some sublime tackling from Sadie Harrison and Molly McLoughlin, but this was not enough to stop the powerful Sandal girls who scored 3 more try's by using the width of the pitch. The Selby girls held their heads up high and finished this 15 minutes in great fashion with Mary Crouch scoring out wide and Zoe Kilgar powering her way over the line with 3 sandal girls on her back.
The last 15 minutes saw Sandal running quickly to spoil Selby's attack and showed some excellent defence which Selby just couldn’t breach, and even though the ever present running from Emily Barton nearly created some try scoring opportunity's the Sandal girls added 2 more try's to their total, but the last try was to fall to Selby with some stylish ball handling and some great speed on show from Eva Bennett to dive over the line and the final whistle blew on a great display of U13 girls rugby.
