Dear Members
It is with much sadness and regret that I have to inform you that Stephen Ward passed away last night.
Steve was a Club stalwart that lived and breathed Selby Rugby. He was one of those who welcomed me when I came to the Club perhaps recognising a similar passion for the game.
Steve was a proud Muffet taking on mantle of Chief Muffet as others passed and worked hard arranging the annual December luncheon event before passing the baton to Chris Guthrie.
Steve was a most generous man giving freely of his time for the Club and patronage through sponsorship of a host of young players. Prior to the creation of the Board he worked with the old committee to secure sponsorship and funding. Thanks to his diligent record keeping of results and player appearances we were able to enjoy his statistics weekly in our match day programmes. Steve recently passed on to the Rugby Committee a list of appearances to enable the Club to recognise and honour those players who have reached the milestone of 100 games as well as those approaching 50 or 100 so they too can so recognised.
His familiar position, sat in the stand clipboard and stopwatch in hand recording every minute of our home games will be how I and many will remember him.
A great friend, we will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and hearts go out to his family and friends
