Selby Rugby Club Sends 500 Playing Shirts Overseas to Support Global Rugby

Today, Selby Rugby Club proudly donated over 500 old playing shirts to SOS Kit Aid, an organisation that distributes kit to developing rugby nations.

This donation has been made possible thanks to the club’s generous sponsors, who have provided brand-new shirts for all our teams this season. Their support has ensured that every age group and squad is kitted out while allowing us to give our much-loved old shirts a new purpose.

For Selby RUFC, these shirts represent far more than fabric and colour. Each one carries with it memories of the players who have worn them – tries scored, conversions missed, victories celebrated, and defeats endured. They’ve been muddied and soaked on cold winter mornings, sweated through on hot afternoons, and worn with pride in both elation and heartbreak.

Now, these shirts will begin a new journey. Instead of being boxed away or forgotten, they will be pulled on by players across the world, helping them experience the same joy, resilience, and camaraderie that rugby brings.

“This donation is not just about recycling kit,” said Karen Ratcliffe, Club Representative. “It’s about sharing the spirit of rugby, passing on a piece of Selby RUFC history, and supporting the growth of our game wherever it is played.”

Selby Rugby Club would like to thank its sponsors and partners for making this possible and looks forward to seeing the shirts continue their story in new hands and on new pitches.
