Free Inner Warrior event for women & girls aged 11 and over

"Bringing a friend with you can also help with the nerves but don’t worry if not, you’ll still meet plenty of great ladies at the sessions. I’ve made friends for life."
- Sarah Hunter, England Red Roses Captain

Allianz Inner Warrior is a series of rugby fitness training camps for Women and Girls aged 11 and over, run by rugby clubs across the country. The camps are designed as a great introduction to rugby for those that have never played or for those who want to get back playing after some time away.

Selby RUFC are pleased to be hosting an Inner Warrior camp on Friday 21st May at 6.00 pm at their grounds on Sandhill Lane.

WHAT IS A WARRIOR CAMP?

Warrior Camps are great fun and hugely rewarding, encouraging you to challenge yourself and learn new skills alongside other like-minded females. Team sports and group activities are also a fantastic way to stay motivated with your fitness training and provide a great outdoor alternative.

The Warrior Camps also welcome back any players who previously hung up their boots for a few seasons, this could be the perfect opportunity to find a club, make new friends and ease back into the game.

IS RUGBY FOR ME?

Rugby offers an opportunity for people of all shapes, sizes and skill sets to play and not only welcomes, but genuinely requires diversity. It’s about forging friendships through a common bond and personal challenges that offer unique accomplishments.

This is a sport that empowers women and girls to discover what makes them strong, and to unleash their inner toughness. Surprise yourself and give it a try. All you will need to take part is a pair of trainers, your usual workout gear and a ‘have a go’ attitude..

WILL I GET HURT?

Warrior Camps are a great way to ease yourself into rugby. You will learn the skills you need to ensure you are safe and having fun. You’ll get an introduction to the techniques of rugby and you’ll work up to the contact elements of the game if you’re comfortable with them. While we can’t guarantee you a bruise free experience in contact rugby, we will help you find a position you’re comfortable in. It’s also a great for fitness!

DOES IT MATTER THAT I DON’T KNOW THE RULES OF RUGBY?

Absolutely not - there’s no expectation that you know the rules. If you come to a Warrior Camp we’ll teach you everything you need to know. Rugby is simple to grasp, but like most sports, there are some elements that take time to pick up. You’ll soon be up to speed with plenty of help available from the coaches and your new team-mates.

DO I NEED TO JOIN SELBY RUFC?

There is no commitment at this point to join our club – have a go at the free Warrior Camp on the 21st May and find out if it’s for you first.

If you have a blast and want to play more often we have various ladies teams you can join and even if you decide contact rugby isn’t your thing, you can still give non-contact rugby a go at O2 Touch sessions on Wednesday evenings. There’s a place for everyone at Selby.

Selby RUFC have four female only teams, u13, u15, u18s and Ladies with over 70 female players playing regular rugby. Girls in primary school, who want to play rugby, are also welcomed in our micros and junior teams and play mixed rugby before joining the u13s when they move into year 7 at school. We also have an 02 Touch & Pass mixed team who play on a Wednesday evening and a great way to enjoy rugby without the contact.

Over 20,000 women across the country have attended Warrior Camps to date, with many going on to join women’s touch and contact rugby teams. Rugby is becoming one of the fastest growing female sports in England and you can be part of it today.

Selby RUFC have a great social venue in the Clubhouse where you can enjoy a drink after training or come down with friends and family to use the facilities. Club events are held regularly for a fun and enjoyable night out. You can also hire the venue for your own party.
