Selby Girls Rugby

The Selby Pens girls are currently playing in their third season. They have come a long way from their first training session with just six girls, to a fantastic squad comprising of two age groups (U13 & U15) with over 35 girls regularly attending the Friday training session.

Selby Pens are proud of their girls, all of whom have shown huge resolve and determination to become a fierce band of young women who epitomise what women’s rugby is all about. It is with this in mind that we are delighted to announce that seven of the Selby Pens were put forward to try out for the England Rugby Developing Player Programme. These girls are Erin Bradley, Darcie Edmunds and Ella Parsonage (U13) and Lauren Balaban, Tara Campey, Lauren Kierans and Jess Llewellyn (U15). All seven of the girls were successful and are now part of the Yorkshire Girls ERDPP scheme.
The programme takes a small number of girls from local teams and once a month, holds a training session for them where they are able to focus on their core rugby skills. Some of the aims of the ERDPP are “encouraging lifelong participation in the game and enabling those with talent to be clearly identified” and “providing high-quality experiences that maximise individual potential and that develop players with elite performance ability as both rugby players and people.”

This is a programme which all girls at the club can aspire to and is a fantastic opportunity to take rugby to the next level.

It is hoped that the girls will not only make new friends across the different clubs, but bring some of their knowledge back to their own team and help to move the club forward.
