In a reversal of the last fixture, Under 16’s hosted Old Brodleians in the latest Yorkshire cup fixture

It was clear from the outset that the boys were well up for the game, with the added bonus of playing on Pitch one, in front of the grandstand for spectators.

The game started brightly, with Selby scoring in the first five minutes. A well weighted kick from Captain Kealey finding full back Bugg who ran in for a try.

Credit to Old Brods, who responded well with a try of their own, before a huge hand off from Janus cleared his path for Selby’s second.
Selby dominated for the next 10 minutes until an almost carbon copy of their first try unfortunately led to a full length try for the opposition. An unkind bounce after a kick allowed their winger to run unchallenged for 80 meters.

Undeterred by this set back, the Selby half backs (Tosney and Kealey) continued to dictate the game leading to Kealey undertaking a fantastic run and pass to winger Cresham for the first of his two for the game. The celebrations by the Snaith school friends typified the spirit and support that the squad has for each other. Old Brod’s tried to break through but their forwards were stopped in their tracks by Selby, particularly Mchale-Higgins who made some huge tackles. Half time score 15-10.

Hydrated at half time, the boys owned the second half. Old Brod’s broke through early, but last man Bugg brought the runner down short of the line. This then lead to fantastic defence work by Selby who twice held the ball up to deny tries. Selby’s next try came from another kick. Winger Tipping chasing down a bobbling ball caused the under pressure full back to put the ball into touch. Tipping received a blooded nose for his troubles, as well as the affection of his team mates for excellent play. The resulting lineout allowed Kealey to dance his way through for a well-deserved try.

He then turned assister as another perfectly weighted kick found Cresham. At full speed ‘Cres’ is unstoppable and he enjoyed scoring his second for the match.

With Selby utterly dominating proceedings the game was finished off by Tehan. Taking advantage of the restart caused by a high tackle, Tehan showed explosive power to dive over the line.
Game won 30-10.

In a remarkable game for the whole squad, there were many stand out performances, but the day (and man of the match) rightly belonged to number 10, Captain Kealey.
