Selby bounced back with a comprehensive win after a challenging outing at York last week. Old Brods found Selby in a buoyant mood, keen to stamp their authority and control the game from the off. They did not disappoint!

Selby marked their intent with an early try from powerful centre Janus after the forwards stole a line out against the head and he powered up the wing handing several defenders off. The conversion, in front of the posts, routinely converted by fly-half Kealey

Shortly afterwards, flanker Tehan almost doubled the lead through a powerful and direct run after picking up a loose ball, but not to be this time. The Brods defence however, could not hold out much longer as rampant Selby scored again following a back row move from a scrum. The impressive Tehan picked up the ball from the base of the pack and powered over the line. Converted again, by Kealey, from a more acute angle this time to make the score 14-0.

This put Selby in a comfortable position and the backs began pressurising the Brods defence with some impressive kicking from Kealey. Two of which were claimed by full back Sibley to run in their third and fourth tries of the game which Kealey converted to make the score 28-0.
From the restart the Brods kick found talisman Janus who powered through the whole defence with a trademark run to make the score 33-0, this time not converted.

Selby then exerted their authority through excellent kicking causing mayhem in the Brods defence as the ball was reclaimed by Selby, passed through several hands before the impressive number 8 Leighton scored Selby’s 6th try of the game. This was quickly followed by a passage of play involving some very fluid passing, and a great run from Tehan before Ellam, appearing for the first time as centre, smashed through the Brods defence to make the score 45-0 once Kealey had again converted.

At this point Brods, after having a player sent off for serious foul play, were looking despondent in defence and Leighton, sensing the unease in the defence, made a half pitch run to run in his second try to make the score 52-0 following a conversion by Janus.

With the game approaching it’s conclusion, winger Tipping received the ball following quick feet from Scrum Half Tosney and safe hands along the back line. He still had work to do however and stepped his opposite man to dive over for the 9th try. This made the final score 57-0.
Ellam was deservedly nominated player of the match, having an excellent outing after moving from back row to play in the centres for the first time.
