It was a drizzly morning down at Selby for the visit of Harrogate RUFC, a team that came with a strong reputation.
The weather contributed to early dropped ball from both teams before a near length of the field break from Kacper enthused the forwards and saw Alistair crash over for a try on the next play. The conversion was added by Harry K.
Selby tried to build on this pressure with Finn coming close to the try line but Harrogate held out.
After a long period of Harrogate possession they moved the ball with quick hands from the line out to score a try in the opposite corner. They were unable to add the conversion.
Selby hit back and looked to be in with a chance after a good break from Ben S but the visitors scrambled well.
A series of penalties saw Harrogate gain territory and manage a try under the posts right on half time with the extras added from the kicking tee.
Half time 7-12
The second half started similar to the first and Harrogate added another try after lots of pressure and Selby struggling to keep possession of the ball.
Thankfully the conversion hit the post and missed leaving it still anyone’s game.
Following some darting runs from Will C, Toby carried the ball and some defenders over the line and avoided being held up to score a try and bring Selby right back into the game. Harry K couldn’t add the extras from right out on the touchline.
Another string of penalties gave field position to Harrogate who moved the ball left to right scoring a final try in the corner. The conversion was missed.
Star player for Selby on the day was Kacper.
