A first run out for the Under16’s took them to Pockington School on a mild, blustery morning. The game started with the referee explaining the new tackle laws to the boys, who listened respectfully and full of expectation that the laws would be applied fairly to both sides……
In an evenly matched game the forwards and backs played well together. Kacper took an early knock, leading to a couple of players playing in different positions, but this didn’t detract from a promising half that saw Ben Cockeram’s tenacity to drive the ball over for his first of the season. Kuba, who has looked very quick since returning, was denied in the corner late in the first half.
Pock wingers certainly had a lot to think about in the break as mighty Luke had produced a masterclass in defensive tackles.
With Kacper able to start the second half, he proceeded to cut the Pock defence in two showing great speed for our second.
Good communication and chatter is becoming a trademark of this team, with Finn being particularly vocal and honest with the Ref! A period of pressure resulted in Billy Wizz diving over for our third and final score of the day.
All of the boys played well and the linking play showed promise for a season opener.
A loss (27-15) but all agreed that it was a good start. Stand out performances from Will T and Toby in the pack, but Luke was rightly awarded man of the match for superb wing work and calm full back manoeuvres.
