Our second away fixture took us to picturesque Ripon and we are able to take 18 lads on the journey for our third game of the season.
It was difficult to describe the game today as it involved an interpretation of the laws by the home referee that left coaches, parents and players bemused but the facts were:
Ripon scored a converted try on 17 minutes to lead 7-0 at half time.
On 36 minutes, Harry (Mr Utilty) playing his fifth position of the season burst down the touchline to score for Selby to reduce the arrears to 7-5.
Two further Ripon tries on 46 and 54 minutes with the former converted made the final score 19-5.
During the game there were excellent defensive performances by all the forwards Eliott, Batsi and Loz being exceptional with their tackling. The backs also were resolute with Dylan, Sam and Danny W outstanding in letting nothing through.
Selby were awarded very little possession and to only concede 7 points in the first half and 19 overall was testament to their ability to keep going when little was going their way.
The spirit for the whole 60 minutes was fantastic by all, we will regroup over the coming days, train hard and prepare for the first round of the cup next week, a lot wiser for the experience that has united the players, and together we will go forward.
