The Selby under 9 squad were asked to show off their skills at half time during Yorkshire Carnegie’s ‘On the Road’ cup game on Saturday, this week. This is the first time Carnegie’s first XV have visited Selby’s fabulous facilities and, with breathless anticipation, the crowd awaited the kick-off.
Sixteen of Selby’s best eight and nine year olds played an exhibition match, drawing applause and plaudits from the large crowd assembled to watch Yorkshire Carnegie’s British and Irish Cup draw against Bedford Blues.
Our inspiring Head Coach, Steve Tosney, split the squad into teams. Each child gave their all in what was one of their most accomplished performances this season. Great teamwork and on pitch organisation showed each individual a great opportunity to shine, and each stepped up to the plate.
Those involved were Harry Kealey, Gabriel Sheppard, Zac Kierans, Kieran Oades, Will Bayston, Ben Cockeram, Toby Taperell, Reggie Joyce, William Tehan, Ben Tosney, Ben Sibley, Ollie Love, Freya Clayton, Tyler Higgins, Will Kavanagh and Joe Bugg. The spectacle was a fitting augmentation to a fine and emphatic victory by Carnegie.
