Selby’s under thirteen boys’ team had a busy weekend full of rugby. The team made a trip down to Leicester where they completed a training session ran by a Leicestershire Tiger’s coach. This was followed with a visit to the ground to watch the Tigers take on Newcastle Falcons. The boys were treated to a pitch side view of the game, meeting some of the players and then cheering the players back onto the pitch after half time doing the guard of honour.
Despite a busy and full-on day at Leicester, the boys travelled the following day to Harrogate to play a strong team. Selby started well with three successive tries from the ‘Selby Gazelle’, Seb Ward, followed by another two later on. Further tries were scored by Lochlan Pearson (two), Nico Usher and Reuben Blackburn adding to the final score. Harrogate found it difficult to break through Selby’s defence with Zac Thornton putting in some fantastic tackles setting the example for the rest of the team. The boys really impressed the coaches with their physicality, determination in defence, teamwork and spirit. Selby were victorious by the final whistle with a score of 45-30.
