Following the cancelled games against sandal 2 weeks ago, a tough morning against Wetherby's 3 teams last weekend, 23 players turned out to meet the one side from West Park, Leeds. As weather conditions improved from horrendous to pleasant in the first 15 minutes, the quality of play from the Selby squad was a pleasure to behold, with handling and support play a spectacle to watch!
The commitment from our parents is admirable, it was great to have Rhys back from his adventures in SA, only landing back yesterday afternoon having persevered temperatures over 40C, returning to a wet, windy and very cold 5c Sunday morning and another dad present after a 24 hr working stint! Thanks go out to Sarah for chasing brunch and Harrison's collection monies, and other parents who helped kitting out the players in awful conditions, as we were down to only three coaches!
Player of the day was awarded to Alex C. who has developed dramatically over the last couple of months.
The weather at the outset would have put the most hardy player to the test, but the squad dealt with the conditions admirably, however parents found it difficult to handle!
Next weekend is the final training session before the Xmas break, followed by the Xmas brunch in the clubhouse and presentation to one of our stalwarts, Harrison, as he heads off to pastures new, donations for his farewell gift are still being taken and there are still tickets available for the brunch, contact Garry for details. From the coaching staff and myself we wish you all a very merry Christmas and a prosperous new year.
